Ruby Mae (Buchanan) Weatherford was born on 20 February 1889 in Hicks, near Madison, Ind., the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Jane Means Buchanan. She married Ira J.V.T. Weatherford on 17 August 1907 and the union bore seven children. The Weatherford family moved to Anderson, Ind. from Jefferson County in 1923. Ruby Weatherford was a homemaker who sold farm products and taught piano lessons to supplement the family income. She also wrote poetry, lyrics, fiction, and advertisting jingles. A number of her works were published in local newspapers. Ira Weatherford was a farmer who also worked for Delco Remy in Anderson, Ind.
